Trip planning

The version I'd book for myself.

Anyone can find you a hotel. What takes years is knowing which of the three good ones is right, and what the other two get wrong.

What you get

A document, not a conversation that evaporates. Day by day, with timings and the travel between places. Where to stay, and the reasoning behind each choice — including the ones I ruled out and why.

Where to eat, what to book ahead, what everybody does that isn't worth your morning. And when a place has a story that explains why it feels the way it does, you get that too.

It arrives as a designed PDF you can print or keep on your phone.

What it costs

A conversationHalf an hour on a call, with written notes afterwards. For when you're mostly sorted and stuck on two decisions.
$200
A short tripThree to five days, one region, fully planned.
from $500
A full itinerarySeven to fourteen days. The usual request.
from $900
Longer, or a groupMulti-country, crossing borders, or more than a few of you.
from $1,500

Two rounds of revisions are included. Beyond that we'd agree something new — it keeps the work honest on both sides.

I can book the hotels for you as well, at no extra cost. Properties pay a commission on bookings made through an advisor; you pay the same rate either way, and often come out ahead on an upgrade or a credit.

Where I work

Anywhere you want to go. What I'm actually selling is a way of choosing — how to tell which of three good hotels is the right one, which town is worth the night and which is a car park with a view, what everybody does that isn't worth your morning. That doesn't change between countries.

Portugal and Spain are where I go deepest. I hold Portuguese citizenship, work in both languages, and have spent years reading the peninsula for pleasure rather than for work. If that's where you're headed, you'll get more out of me than out of most people.

Everywhere else, I do the research properly and I'm straight with you about what I know first-hand and what I've had to dig for. I'd rather be useful than impressive.

Or email me directly — tyler@thelongapproach.co. I answer everything.
